What Ligonier Ministries Is

Ligonier Ministries (ligonier.org) was founded by R.C. Sproul to help Christians think carefully about theology. It is one of the premier Reformed theology resources in the world, and much of its content is free — including thousands of articles, daily devotionals, Q&A responses, and the flagship Renewing Your Mind podcast.

The theological perspective is classically Reformed — the sovereignty of God, the authority of Scripture, the doctrines of grace, the holiness of God — which aligns well with the Sydney Anglican tradition and provides the doctrinal depth that makes SRE teaching genuinely formative rather than merely informational.

Renewing Your Mind Podcast

Renewing Your Mind is a daily podcast of 25–30 minutes, working through systematic theology, biblical exposition, church history, and apologetics. Most episodes are free; some teaching series require purchase. For SRE teachers, the free episodes covering topics like the character of God, the doctrine of creation, Christology, the atonement, and the resurrection are directly applicable to lesson content.

The podcast is available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and ligonier.org. Listening during a commute or walk is a low-effort way to build theological depth that eventually enriches everything you teach.

Crucial Questions Booklets — Free to Download

Ligonier publishes a series of short booklets called Crucial Questions on topics including 'What is the Trinity?', 'Can I Trust the Bible?', 'What Is Faith?', 'Who Is the Holy Spirit?', and 'What Is Repentance?' — all free to download as PDFs from their website. Each is 30–50 pages, written at an accessible level, and covers its topic with clarity and depth.

For SRE teachers, these booklets are excellent background reading before teaching a unit on a core doctrine. They are also suitable for sharing with parents who want to understand what their children are learning in SRE.

Tabletalk Magazine — Daily Devotional with Depth

Ligonier's Tabletalk magazine (subscription for print; some content free online) features daily devotional readings that work through a book of the Bible over several months, with short articles on theological topics. The online content includes a rotating selection of free articles. For SRE teachers who want a daily reading practice that goes deeper than a simple devotional but doesn't require reading a full commentary, Tabletalk strikes an excellent balance.
