Frequently Asked Questions

Can I withdraw my child from SRE? Yes. SRE is entirely opt-in. You can also withdraw your child at any point during the year by notifying the school in writing.

Is SRE assessed? No. SRE is not part of the formal curriculum and there are no grades, reports, or assessments.

What if my child doesn't want to go? Talk to the teacher or coordinator — a change in class, group, or even just a conversation with the volunteer can often resolve discomfort. It's also worth asking your child exactly what the concern is.

Are SRE teachers checked? Yes. All SRE volunteers must hold a valid Working With Children Check and be approved by both their provider organisation and the school. Schools maintain records of all accredited volunteers.

What if there's no SRE provider from my tradition? Contact your denomination's education office — they often want to know where demand exists. In some cases, parents can also apply to become volunteer teachers themselves.
