Curricula Worth Using

Connect (Anglican Education Commission NSW): A comprehensive K–12 curriculum with detailed lesson plans, visual aids, and age-appropriate Bible engagement. Regularly updated and widely used across NSW. Provides both teacher guides and student materials.

SRE in a Nutshell: A flexible resource for SRE teachers who want to build their own lesson sequences. Less structured than Connect but offers greater flexibility for experienced teachers.

Scripture Union resources: SU Australia produces holiday and term-based programs that align well with SRE — useful for volunteers who want to supplement their curriculum with additional story resources or activities.

Training Programs

Every SRE provider in NSW offers its own accreditation training. The Anglican Education Commission runs regular training days for new and continuing volunteers. Access Ministries (Victoria) and similar organisations in other states offer comparable programs. Look for training that includes child safety content, classroom management basics, and curriculum orientation — not just theological content.

Digital Tools for SRE Preparation

YouVersion Bible App — free, available in multiple child-friendly translations, useful for displaying passages on a screen during lessons. Canva — excellent for creating simple visual aids, memory verse cards, and lesson overview slides. YouTube — search for 'Saddleback Kids', 'Minno', or 'What's in the Bible' for animated Bible story videos suitable for SRE use with appropriate licensing. The key is using these to supplement, not replace, your own storytelling.
