Growth mindset—the belief that abilities develop through effort—leads to persistence, resilience, and ultimately higher achievement. Fixed mindset (abilities are static) leads to avoidance of challenges and reduced effort.

Educational research: Dweck's work shows mindset interventions improve achievement, particularly for disadvantaged students and those previously struggling.

Pro tip: Teach students that struggling is a sign of growth, not inadequacy. Read 'Mindset' research summaries with older students. Develop shared language about learning and effort.
